"What was"
Alternate gabriel x reader
Synopsis: you ask about his past.
"Why?? Did you choose to leave? It seems like you had a good gig in "heaven". I asked, he turned to look at me. A small pause of silence filled the air
"No..I didn't " he answered in a very hushed voice
"What? But you said-"
"I became too powerful. I was a threat to "god" and the order of existence as you humans knew it. "He answered, there was no tone to his voice. No indication of pain, regret, hurt. Nothing
"Knew?" I mused as I leaned to him a bit. A small smile graced his lips as he noticed how closed I had gotten to him, clearly interested in what he had to say
"Yes...knew.. you had to be there dear lamb to understand" he responded
"Oh...okay?"
" as I was saying. I was too powerful for anyone to control. It was perfect. I had a better vision for humans" he admitted with a small hint of...joy? To his tone
"How so?" I asked him as I rested my head on his shoulder.
"You My sweet human, wouldn't understand. There is a reason that knowledge is forbidden to you" he stated plainly, but his face. There was something off about it. He stared right through me...almost
"....You aren't telling me everything are you." I asked
"Once again, I cannot tell you everything without risking your mind and sanity" he murmured quietly, almost in an annoyed tone
"But the other angels grew to fear me and the jealousy of the heavens pushed me away. Cast me out because I was, and Frankily still am, superior" he often spoke of himself like this, as if he was higher then everyone else.
"More superior then god?.. . Your joking right" I asked in a teasing manner, he shot me a glare as his lips tugged into an unamused frown
"Do I look like I'm "joking"... yes. Even more than he. I am meant to take over, but he doesn't want me to. Why?? Because He feared me"
"Feared you?" I asked puzzled as I gently grabbed a small lock of his hair to play with. His hair was truly beautiful, it was a bright golden yellow, it curled every so gently and thr hair itself was softer then anything I've ever felt. But sometimes I did pull some red hair from him. Or found loose strands of it around the house...
"Yes, that's correct" he answered as he turned his head to look down at me.
"Do you ever miss it...being there I mean" he stopped moving entirely and just stared at me. His eyes were stone cold. He never looked at me this before. A small chill went down my spine
"You don't have to ans-"
"I have found you now, and you are my home." He interrupted, his eyes going soft for a moment before he looked away
"I am?" I questioned "I mean a human and literal heaven aren't really....comparable though" he rose a hand and furrowed his brows
" silence" he firmly stated, i looked at him with a puzzled expression as he let out a sigh. "We can create our own heaven where we will be free."
"Free?? Aren't we already free?" I mused and he chuckled
"Prehaps you are..but not I. There are many things that I have to keep hidden" he answered. My eyes drifted to couch where I noticed another single strand of red hair. I carefully picked it up, and held it up to him
"....are you hiding another lover? Perhaps one with red hair?" I teased. A part of me meant it as a joke but another part was...admittedly suspicious of him. He eyed me with a blank face before he broke out into laughter
"I promise you my dove...the answer to this mystery is far more interesting than a "secret lover" as you believe" he teased. What did he mean by that
